It’s September, the New Cut is glinting in the evening sun and it’s a lovely new venue for The Spoke, purveyors of locally-sourced, organic poetry. Drinks will be available, then you can feast on a gourmet five-course banquet of new poems from The Spoke’s chefs –Paul Deaton, Lizzie Parker, Sarah Rudston, Claire Williamson and Bob Walton. And for a delicious dessert, sample some traditional Irish fireside ballads from Marianne McAleer, multi-award winner at the All-Britain and All-Ireland Fleadh Cheoil.

– and all FREE (did I mention that?)

I’m thrilled (understatement!) to be a guest at SIDMOUTH FOLK WEEK, Devon, in the traditional concerts at The Woodlands Hotel and The Bedford Hotel – but I’ll still be heading up to The Volunteer for the incredible daily lunchtime singarounds whenever I’m free!

 SATURDAY 2nd AUGUST,  8 – 10.30pm: THE TRADITION GATHERS with John Howson, Fiona Hunter, Thomas McCarthy, Jerry O’Reilly, Marianne McAleer, Mary MacNamara, Eileen O’Brien, Racker Donnelly, Stuart Carolan & Hector Christie – WOODLANDS HOTEL.

SUNDAY 3rd AUGUST, 8 – 10.30pm: THE FULL IRISH with Jerry O’Reilly, Eileen O’Brien, Marianne McAleer, Mary MacNamara, Stuart Carolan, Racker Donnelly & Thomas McCarthy – BEDFORD HOTEL.

TUESDAY 5th AUGUST,  5 – 7pm: BALLAD SESSION hosted by Sheila Miller and Moira Craig with their guest, Marianne McAleer  –  THE WOODLANDS HOTEL.

THURSDAY 7th AUGUST,  7.30 – 10.30pm:  60th ANNIVERSARY IRISH HOOLEY  –   Celebratory dance, music & song led by Jerry O’Reilly & The Night Before  –  STOWFORD RISE COMMUNITY CENTRE.

FRIDAY 8th AUGUST,  9.30 – 11am  –  WORKSHOP: SINGING IRISH TRADITIONAL SONGS  –  led by Marianne McAleer  –  LOWER METHODIST CHURCH HALL.

FRIDAY 8th AUGUST, 7.30 – 10pm:  TRADITIONAL FAREWELL hosted by Hector Christie & Jerry O’Reilly – with Alison McMoreland & Geordie McIntyre, Heather Wood & Ken Schatz, Marianne McAleer, Racker Donnelly, Thomas McCarthy, The Young Coppers, Dan Quinn, Peter & Barbara Snape, Andrew Frank & Michael Hebbert and the Liam Robinson Dance Band  –  THE WOODLANDS HOTEL.
